Cape Coast, June 21, GNA – Francis Nkrumah, a clerk at the University of Cape Coast was on Tuesday bonded to be of good behaviour for 12 months by a Cape Coast circuit court for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Ellen Ansah. Nkrumah 29, who changed his plea of not guilty to guilty after five adjournments, would go to prison for four months in default. The court ordered him to compensate Ms Ansah with an amount of 300,000 cedis.
The case for the prosecution was that Nkrumah and Ellen had been lovers for a number of years, but the relationship broke up. It said on April 4 this year, at about 1830 hours, Ellen was selling fried yam by the roadside at Ewim, a suburb of Cape Coast, when a friend of Nkrumah who was then passing by, teased her that she had grown lean, since she broke up with his friend but she denied that.
According to the prosecution, Ellen then retorted that she had been feeding Nkrumah before they broke up and Nkrumah’s mother, who lives in the vicinity heard what Ellen said and picked up a quarrel with her. In the process, Nkrumah also appeared at the scene and without any provocation pounced on Ellen, slapped her and the matter was reported to the police.
