Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Attah Mensah, Minister in-charge of the Saint Barnabas Anglican Church at Nkoranza, has urged activists of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to uphold reconciliation and avoid vengeance after the Supreme Court verdict to maintain the prevailing peace and stability in the country.
He stressed the need for government appointees and officials to be humble and refrain from arrogance.
Rev. Father Mensah made the call when delivering the sermon at a thanksgiving service for Madam Stella Amoatemaa, Nkoranza South Municipal Chief Executive at Nkoranza.
“With the 2012 Election Petition over, Ghanaians should forge ahead in unity and play their respective roles as stakeholders to make the country a haven for all and sundry,” he said.
Rev. Father Mensah called on Madam Amoatemaa to listen more to views from the people and to talk little as her utterances could mean a lot to people whom she would meet when performing her duties.
He reminded her that she was working for all the people in the Municipality and should therefore not attempt to draw wedges between people who might approach her in the interest of the area to win their confidence as a good leader.
Rev. Father Mensah expressed concern about corruption that had gained roots across the country and advised Madam Amoatemaa to monitor activities of public officials in the area to reduce corrupt practices.
He appealed to Madam Amoatemaa to use her appointment as a role model to promote girls’ education in the Municipality by encouraging parents to takeinterest in the education of their girls.
Madam Amoatemaa expressed appreciation to the assembly members for confirming her appointment and called for their support.
She paid tribute to Okatakyie Agyeman Kodom IV, Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, and Nana Adutwumwaa Dudaa Kani, Queenmother of Nkoranza Traditional Area for their advice and encouragement with regard to her responsibility as a politician.
Madam Amoatemaa appealed to the youth and activists of the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to antagonise each other, but to promote unity and cooperate for the development of the Municipality.
