Clergyman says crimes affect development

Kasoa, Dec 8, GNA- A Clergyman has noted that despite the proliferation of Churches and other religious organisations, armed robbery, rape, defilement and other crimes continue to affect the socio-economic development of the country.

Pastor J. k. Effah, in charge of the Kasoa East District branch of the Apostolic Church, Ghana, called for a consultative meeting of religious bodies, the Police Service, opinion leaders and other stake holders to find effective ways of curbing crimes.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Kasoa on Monday, the Clergyman noted that despite the existence of stringent laws and serious policing, people, particularly the youth continued to engage in activities and crimes that were detrimental to national development. Pastor Effah, therefore, called on the Ghana Christian Council, Muslim associations, and other religious groups and educational institutions to collaborate with government to find lasting solutions to the problem.

He said the government’s Golden Age of Business policy would remain a mirage if serious steps were not taken to create a congenial atmosphere to encourage investors to invest in the country. Pastor Effah also appealed to politicians to refrain from inflammatory comments and work together to ensure peace and stability for national development. 8 Jan 07
