Clergy, Politicians urged to account of stewardship

Kumasi, March 13, GNA – A religious leader has expressed concern about the inability of some clergymen and politicians to regularly account for their stewardship to their people, describing it as morally unacceptable. Bishop J.N.K. Boateng, Founder of the Gospel Revival Church of Christ (GRCC), advised the clergy and politicians never to take accountability for granted since that could either sustain “their grip to their positions or dislodge them”.

Bishop Boateng was addressing the closing session of a three-day forum of pastors of the GRCC, held at Sofoline in Kumasi on Sunday. It was designed to help the pastors take stock of their activities for the past two months, and map out more effective strategies to enhance their pastoral duties. Bishop Boateng reiterated that accountability should not be perceived only as an attribute before mankind, but also an issue before God on the day of judgement. He was not happy that sometimes some clergymen in their bid to please their church members deliberately fail to be frank and honest with them on their moral and social lives and attitudes.

“Instead of deceiving members about the true state of issues, the clergy should normally muster courage and be bold enough to point out to them the truth”. He said even though such an approach may in the short-term be distasteful to members, they will grow to accept it as the truth.
