Kumasi, Dec. 17, GNA- A two-day HIV/AIDS seminar aimed at educating the clergy in Ashanti with requisite knowledge to enable them to deliver accurate information about the pandemic to their congregations had ended in Kumasi.
The seminar was organised by the Kumasi Chapter of the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), and was attended by 40 church leaders and pastors in the region. The Reverend Felix Owusu, Co-ordinator of the Kumasi chapter of OAIC, in an address on Thursday, advised Ministers of the Gospel to openly discuss issues on the disease with their members. He said it was high time Christians devoted much attention and time to finding pragmatic solutions to the spread of the disease. Reverend Owusu pointed out that if people carrying the virus are stigmatised, it would discourage them from disclosing their HIV/AIDS status.
Mr E.K. Obeng, an HIV/AIDS Counsellor at the Old Tafo Government Hospital, called on corporate bodies and philanthropists to support HIV/AIDS victims materially and spiritually for them to fell at home.
