Clean-Up Exercise Of Capital Today

The Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Nii Stanley Adjiri Blankson, has appealed to residents of Accra to join the clean-up exercise scheduled for Saturday to ensure its success.

He said, ?What I don?t want is for residents to sit down unconcerned while officials of the AMA alone clean Accra. All of us contributed in one way or the other to make the city filthy and we must help clean it.? The mayor stressed that the success of the exercise depended on the personal involvement of all residents in the metropolis and therefore appealed to them to assist in that direction.

Mr Blankson said these on Thursday when he addressed a durbar at the assembly?s premises. The durbar was attended by heads of departments of the assembly, assembly members, sub-metro councillors, unit committee members as well as staff of the assembly.

The aim of the durbar was to find out pertinent problems confronting each electoral area which was likely to undermine the exercise and to see how best it could be rectified. After a situation report from he directors of all the 13-metros on their preparedness towards the exercise, participants were allowed to ask questions and seek clarifications.

As to what form of motivation would be given to residents who would participate in the exercise the chief executive announced that each of the 68 assembly members had been given an amount of ?2 million to motivate those who would participate in the exercise.

In a related development, the assembly continues to receive donations from organisations towards the exercise. Among the organisations were the advertisers Association of Ghana, which donated a cheque for ?10 million, Modero Ghana Limited, 300 pieces of shovel worth ?12 million, the Ghana Union Traders Association, 36 pieces of shovel, 10 pairs of Wellington boots and five wheel barrows.
