Classroom block inaugurated in Kumasi

Kumasi, July 5, GNA – A block of eight classrooms, office and store constructed for the New Suame Methodist primary school at the cost of 850,000 Ghana Cedi (equivalent to 850 million cedis) was on Tuesday inaugurated at New Suame in Kumasi.

The project was financed by Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Member of Parliament for Suame from his share of the MP’s Common Fund. Inaugurating the project Mr Mensah-Bonsu said since education was vital to the socio-economic development of the country it was the determination of the government to provide the facilities and structures for all schools.

He said the capitation grant and feeding programme of the government were geared towards promoting education and advised parents and guardians to take advantage of such opportunities and enrol their children in schools.

The MP said the Suame sub-metropolitan education office would be provided with 15,000 Ghana Cedi from his share of the common fund to furnish its office.

Mr J.K. Onyinah, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education, said the establishment of School Management Committees and Parent-Teacher Associations in schools was important and would help improve the development of school.

Mrs Margaret Agyepong, the Headteacher of the school, commended the MP for providing facilities to enhance effective teaching and learning.

She appealed to the MP, individuals and organizations to help to fence the school to avoid encroachment and also provide it with furniture and toilet facilities.

Nana Owusu Aduomi, the chief of Suame who chaired the function, stressed the need for individuals and organizations to complement the effort of the government in the provision of structures and other facilities for schools.
