Claims of non-publication of our activities in Nyinahin mischievous- Exton Cubic

Exton Cubic Group Limited has denied claims that it has not engaged the residents of Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region on its bauxite mining activities.

Assembly member for Nyinahin, Baba Yaro, insists Exton Cubic has failed to publish its activities in line with the mining laws and is yet to engage the community on its social responsibility.

The Assembly member said this Wednesday after leading a protest against the activities of the company.

But Exton Cubic Group Limited says it has been in talks with the leadership of the Nyinahin community since 2016.

Aide to the Chief Executive of the company, Rafiq Mahama, told Gold News claims that no publication has been done is mischievous.

“It’s clear that publication was being done and probably they weren’t so serious about what was going on at that time,” he responded.

He said the Chief of the area and other leaders have always been involved in the steps Exton Cubic has taken in relation to this issue.

“They are addressing the concerns of the masses but you can’t just do it with everybody in the town,” he indicated.

Rafiq Mahama believes all the concerns of the Nyinahin residents will be addressed before the commencement of mining.

However, Assemblyman for Nyinahin, Baba Yaro, says he is disappointed in the former District Chief Executive who he said never informed the residents of the company’s activities.

“If he knew the presence of these people in the district, the first thing to do as DCE is to inform your stakeholders: we are the assembly members to you,” he said.

Baba Yaro believes their protest is still justified because the publication is just one of their concerns

“The item number one on our petition is the social responsibility agreement with the community,” he disclosed.
