CJA Endorse Mills

The cross-party pressure group, the Committee for Joint Action (CJA) is expected to throw its full weight behind Professor John Evans Atta Mills, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the up coming elections. The membership of the Committee if drawn from such opposition parties as the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), the National democratic Congress (NDC), the Peoples National Convention (PNC) and the National Reform party (NRP) as well as the Socialist Forum of Ghana (SFG).

Prominent members of the CJA include Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, National Chairman of the PNC, Dr Omane Baamah, former President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS0, Mr Kyeretwie Opoku, General Secretary of the NRP and Mr Kwesi Pratt, Jnr. Of the Socialist Forum of Ghana (SFG).

Sources close to the CJA told The Insight that a formal position is expected to be adopted today.

The source said there has been no opposition from any member of the Committee since consultations began last Wednesday. It is expected that the position of the CJA will act as an impetus to members of other opposition parties to rally round the Mills candidacy.

In the first round of the Presidential election on December 7, 2008, Professor Mills obtained 47.92 per cent of valid votes cast whiles his rival got 49.13 per cent. Voter turn out was 69 per cent and there were as many as 205,000 invalid votes.

Professor Mills is seen widely as a sincere and honest politician even though the NDC’s development model is not substantially different from that of the NPP. He has promised to reduce the price of petroleum products and increase the peoples’ access to education and health. A keen sportsman and administrator, Professor Mills is expected to win the December 28 presidential run-off with a significant margin.
