Gomoa Fetteh (C/R), Feb. 18, GNA – Opanyin Kojo Yamoah, Head of the Twidan Clan at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, has petitioned the Chief Justice to intervene to ensure justice to two suspects who allegedly murdered Kweku Ansah, 35, and injured Kweku Amoquandoh, both farmers at Gomoa Nyamebekyere, near Kasoa about two years ago. The suspects were Kofi Ayitey and Nai Otsor.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Gomoa Fetteh on Friday, Opanyin Yamoah said the two suspects and 11 others were arrested and put before a circuit court in Cape Coast Circuit over the alleged murder.
He said the suspects had been granted bail two years ago and since then they had been roaming the streets of Nyamebekyere freely as if nothing had occurred.
Opanyin Yamoah said in August 2006, the two suspects and the 11 others allegedly came from Awutu Ofankor and destroyed the town’s shrine without any provocation.
He said the suspects fired gun shots indiscriminately and ion the process shot and killed Ansah instantly, while seriously injuring Amoquandoh on his head and other parts of the body. Opanyin Yamoah said investigations conducted at the Attorney General’s Department in Cape Coast and Accra indicated that the docket has been completed and sent to court for the suspects to be tried, but no effort was being made to put them before court. He said he and his family members were being threatened through dangerous messages from some faceless persons, adding that the family had lodged a formal complaint to the police at Kasoa. The clan head appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide members of the family with the needed security to avoid further tragedy. Opanyin Yamoah also appealed to the Chief Justice to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book since the family could not take law into their own hands.
