CJ c’ttee ‘likely’ to subpoena Sir John, Vicky Hammah on vikileaks

The opposition NPP’s General Secretary and sacked Deputy Communications Minister, Victoria Hammah, can both be subpoenaed to appear before the Chief Justice’s Committee, according to a private lawyer.

The two have been invited to assist in Ms Hammah’s claim that the election petition verdict may have been influenced by Gender Minister Nana Oye Lithur.

Ms Hammah has written to the Committee saying she’s indisposed.

Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John, whose party petitioned the Chief Justice on the matter, also said he’s out of town and so can’t honour the invitation.

But legal practitioner Osei Owusu Afriyie in an interview with XYZ News, said the committee has the powers of the Chief Justice and can subpoena the two persons if it so wishes.

“As far as I am concerned this is a judicial committee and looking at possibly the Court act it could have certain inherent powers.

“It would be better for those who need to appear before it do so voluntarily failing which the committee could sought of subpoena them,” Mr. Osei Afriyie said.

Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Nana Oye Lithur is also expected to appear before the committee.
