Civil servants want Association restructured

Accra, July 19, GNA – The Greater Accra Civil Servants’ Association on Thursday called on the Head of the Civil Service to restructure the entire national executive body to enhance its efficiency.

They contended that the continuous stay of some officers at the same position for several years was affecting their productivity and had led to various machinations to protect their interest. Mr. George Mensah, Accra District Chairman of the Association, said the executives, for instance, had failed to push for their 10 per cent salary arrears for October last year, as well as other benefits due them as promised by Government.

Addressing the workers at a meeting in Accra, Mr Mensah said the Association was therefore calling for amendment of their constitution to clearly spell out the term of office and other provisions that would ensure that executives lived up to expectation.

He said Government had not fulfilled its promises to them such as car loans for the workers.

“All that we are saying is that the Association will no longer keep silent because we are not happy with the way our executives are not cooperating with us to fight for our due,” he added. Mr. Mensah said their attempt to also recover their 10 per cent salary arrears had proved futile, despite various interventions from the National Labour Commission and asked the government to settle the issue by the end of August.
