Accra, Sept. 23, GNA – The Head of Civil Service, Mr. Joe Issachar, has urged civil servants to eschew the tendency where officers regularly report to work late, and apathy towards work. He said civil servants play a major role in the formulation and implementation of government policies, and that if they indulged in such unhealthy attitude their status as partners of government would be defeated. These were contained in a statement read on behalf of Mr. Issachar by Mr. Ampong, Director of Public Records Administration and Archives Department (PRAAD) at the opening of the just-ended Professional Leadership Skills Course in Accra for selected officers in the executive class of the Civil Service.
The programme organized by the civil service training centre under the auspices of the Head of Civil Service, was aimed at promoting professionalism through human resource development in the civil service. Participants were entreated to conscientiously, judiciously and assiduously help to move government machinery forward to the benefit of the country.
Mrs. Dora Dei-Tumi, Principal of the Civil Service Training Centre, in a brief overview of the course, commended participants for exhibiting maturity and cooperation during their stay at the centre. She expressed the hope that the tuition and the knowledge they had acquired would help them live up to expectation for others to emulate. Mr. Okyere-Darko Ababio, Director of the Recruitment, Training and Development Division of the Head of Civil Service, in his closing remarks urged participants as professional leaders to put into practice the knowledge and skills gained at the workshop to help move the country forward.
He advised them to attend courses periodically in order to update their knowledge, adding that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is now the order of the day so they should undergo ICT training to enable them to overcome challenges they may encounter in life. Participants were taken through topics including administrative writings, ethics and its relevance, safety and risk management at the workplace, interfacing with the public, and gender issues. 23 Sept. 09
