Civil Servants salaries for September not delayed

Accra, Sept. 27, GNA – The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department on Tuesday said there has not been any delay in the payment of September salaries of Civil Servants.

Reacting to complaints from Civil Servants that their salaries had delayed, Mrs Grace Adzroe, Deputy Controller and Accountant-General in Charge of Treasury, told the Ghana News Agency that authorisation to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to effect payments to the commercial banks went on September 20.

She said the September calendar indicated that by September 23, commercial banks should have started effecting payments. However, the operations of commercial banks differed, hence all workers could not be paid at the same time.

Ms Adzroe said if there was any delay at all, it might have come from the commercial banks since not all of them were networked. Mr Bejamin Doku, Director of Payroll, showed GNA a letter dated September 20, 2005 to the BoG authorising it to disburse payments to respective commercial banks.

He noted even if by the September 23, a bank failed to effect payment, it had a grace period of one week to do that. “It is only after the one week that if a worker has not received his/her salary that he can raise the alarm,” Mr Doku said.
