Civil Servants in need of End of Service Award

Accra, April 28, GNA – The Civil Servants Association (CSA) has appealed to the government to introduce “End-Of-Service Benefit” into the civil service as a compensation for cancellation of Cap 30. The association said this should be worked in such a way that workers take two months salary out of every year multiplied by the number of years one serves.

Mr Tennyson Foli, Vice President of CSA, who spoke to the GNA in an interview, said “the tragedy of the Civil Servant is that he goes home with scanty SNNIT pension and in many cases turns a pauper and dies pre maturely.”

He said that since other government workers receive ESB and parliamentarians take ex-gratia it is necessary for civil servants to enjoy ESB.

He said morale of civil servants is very low because they are aware that after 30 to 40 years dedicated service “there will be no thank you, so being aware that poverty faces them in the future, there is low morale. Therefore, government should invigorate its own machinery through the institution of the ESB.”

Mr Foli said when the CAP 30 was in place “one could see a vibrant worker discharging his duty very cautiously knowing that if he or her commits an offence all gains from the Cap 30 would be lost.” He said when workers’ morale is high there would not the temptation for corruption.
