Civil servants in Ashanti call for amendment of constitution

New Edubiase (Ash), Aug 25, GNA – Some members of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Civil Servants Association (CSA) are calling for the amendment of certain portions of the association’s constitution that make the position of the Executive Secretary appointive.

They suggested that the Executive Secretary should be elected so that whoever takes up that appointment will be accountable to the members and could be judged by his or her performance.

This issue came out at a meeting between the Ashanti Regional chairman and secretary of the association at New Edubiase in the Adansi South District who are touring the region to interact with members. They have already visited Sekyere East, Ejisu-Juaben, Amansie Central, Amansie East, Obuasi and Adansi North districts. In all the districts the members expressed similar sentiments.

The members said apart from the Executive Secretary not accountable to members, they felt that it was time the association became proactive. Addressing members at the various meetings, Mr Kwame Asamoah-Dwomoh, the Regional Chairman, called on the members to exercise restraint and see how best the issue could be tackled at the national level.
