The Civil Servants Association has given the National Tripartite Committee up to the end of April to determine the new national minimum wage for workers in the country.
The Executive Secretary of the Civil Servants Association, Smart Chigabatia, said failure to speed up the process in the wage negotiations would encourage despondency and disloyalty between Workers and Employers by the end of the deadline.
He expressed these sentiments at the opening of the National Executive Council of the Association in Cape Coast.
Chigabatia noted that while the government has increased petroleum by nearly 60 per cent, workers’ salaries had remained at a standstill, adding that increases in water and electricity tariffs have resulted in untold hardships on Workers.
He therefore urged the committee to avoid undue delays in the negotiation to ensure improved conditions of service for workers. Chigabatia also asked that allowances given to civil servants be standardized and urged the government to establish the National Health Insurance Scheme without further delays.
