Asamankese (E/R) June 6, GNA – The National Citrus Growers Association of Ghana has adopted organic farming as a means to conform to the international standard and attract investments. The association has decided that with effect from June 2005 to June 2007 it was expected that all farmers of the Association would have converted from in-organic to organic farming.
Mr. Appiah Amankwah the National Chairman of the Association announced this at the Association’s delegates meeting with Seam Information Communication Technology Consult, a consultancy firm in Ghana at Asamankese at the weekend.
He said the Association was working out modalities to mitigate problems associated with the convertion from in-organic to organic. Mr. Amankwah said as part of the measures ,the association would recruit from 30 to 40 youth in every district to undergo training on the management of organic farming, including the use of biological products on organic farming.
He said the biological products, which were made from plants were products suitable for organic farming which have no side effect. Mr. Amankwah said citrus is a very a important fruit which must be allowed to develop its natural growth and taste to enhance the health of consumers.
Mr. Eric Akomiah the Managing Consultant of the Seam ICT Consult, who expressed satisfaction with the effort of the Association said his outfit would complement their effort by exposing them to the international front.
He said the consultancy would create a website for the association to enable it access to foreign contacts and be able to attract investors into the processing circle. June 06 05
