Citizens mobilise to kill raging carnivorous animal

Logba-Akusame (VR), April 1, GNA – The mystery surrounding a raging carnivorous animal perceived to be a lion has heighten up with scores of the indigenes of Logba Traditional Area mobilising to clampdown on the animal, which was spotted in the area on Monday. Togbe Akotia VI, Chief of Logba-Akusame told Ghana News Agency that a nursing mother (known as Akpene), who was returning from the farm spotted the large cat-like animal and quickly bolted for dear life amidst screaming.

He said the townsfolk then mobilised themselves to hunt down the animal, which had not yielded any positive results as the search continued. Togbe Akotia said initial findings from the search party, which trailed the paws, only identified the resting place of the animal near a dejected palm wine grove in the Akusame/Vuinta forest. He said information on the animal was earlier on relayed from Akpadaho Mountains and villages near Logba-Tota where the indigenes spotted a carcass of a devoured ram around dusk last Saturday. Togbe Akotia said to avoid throwing caution to the wind on the presence of the raging and marauding animal, chiefs in the area created public awareness by beating gong-gong.

He suspected that the animal could be hiding in the caves in the vast Gbefi-Tarve-Tafi-Ve tropical forest and savanna land. Meanwhile, farming activities have not been affected by the news of the lion, as evidenced by the unavailability of Akpene, who spotted the animal, as it was said she was busy tilling the land at the time of visit by GNA. This brings to three the appearance of a suspected lion in the Volta Region, in the last two months, including the Adaklu-Wuakpe near Wumenu in the Adaklu-Anyigbe District and in the Akrofu savanna in the Ho Municipality.
