Nkoranza, June 24, GNA – Mr Kwaku Amoah-Tutu, Nkoranza District Assistant Director of Education in-Charge of Supervision has urged Circuit Supervisors to intensify efforts to monitor teachers to improve academic performance of students. He made the call when addressing 12 Circuit Supervisors at a day’s in-service training course to improve supervision in schools at Nkoranza.
Mr Amoah-Tutu expressed concern about the falling standards in education among students in public schools and attributed it to poor supervision from heads of schools and teachers. “It is unfortunate that some heads of schools cannot ensure their teachers prepare schemes of work and allowed them to be on their own to the detriment of education,” he added.
Mr Amoah-Tutu stressed the need for Circuit Supervisors to visit schools regularly and offer the necessary support to heads of schools to enable them improve on their performance.
He cautioned teachers against negative attitudes such as absenteeism, lateness, laziness and drunkenness and warned that recalcitrant teachers would be sanctioned according to the rules and regulations of the teaching profession. “Teachers must make maximum use of the instructional periods on the school time table and avoid roaming about during such periods since that would have adverse effect on the education of their pupils and students,” Mr Amoah Tutu stressed. He appealed to members of School Management Committees to visit the schools and interact with the teachers to know and help address problems facing teachers, pupils and students. Mr Amoah-Tutu called on parents to cooperate with teachers to ensure discipline was instilled in the pupils and students to develop good morals and become useful citizens.
