Circuit Court continues to jail drivers who flout traffic regulations.

Tema, Sept. 14, GNA – The Tema Circuit Court ‘B’ on Monday, sentenced a taxi driver to 20 days jail term for flouting traffic regulations. Sampson Appiah, 28, pleaded guilty to charges of causing obstruction and unauthorised packing, among others. This is the third jail sentence the court had imposed on indisciplined drivers who create traffic jam by picking and alighting passengers at unauthorised places.

Police Inspector Ben Agbedanu told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on August 30 this year, at 8:30 am, the accused person who was driving Toyota taxi cab was spotted by personnel of the MTTU on patrol duties. Inspector Agbedanu said the driver parked his vehicle in the market street near the Tema Municipal Assembly, to pick and drop passengers at the same time. The prosecution said this behaviour of the driver caused traffic jam, thus causing his arrest by the police.
