The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police, at the weekend said that it would screen all Ghanaians prisoners repatriated from Libya on Friday before advising the government on the matter.
One-hundred and eight Ghanaian prisoners were repatriated from Tripoli, Libya where they were jailed for various offences ranging from drug possession, illegal immigration, alcohol use and distillation, assault and robbery.
Forty of them are to continue with their sentences in Ghana, 45 had already completed their sentences, while 23 were granted amnesty by the Libyan government
Mr David Asante-Apeatu, Director of the CID told newsmen that the screening would determine what advice would be given to government, adding that some of the offences committed were non-criminal in Ghana.
He said the convicts, which included a woman who hitherto had been granted amnesty by the Libyan authorities have served various terms in jails in Libya.
Mr Asante-Apeatu said among the 40 who had completed their sentences have served between two months and three years, while those who are to continue theirs are to serve between three to 17 years.
