Reverend Ransford Awuku-Gyampoh, Minister of the Trinity Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Adweso near Koforidua, has called on churches to observe Africana Week as part of the Almanac.
He said the Africana or African week celebration was instituted by the church with the aim of reviving the dying cultural values which formed the pillars of society.
Rev Awuku-Gyampoh made the call at the second Africana week celebration on the theme: “Systemic Change: A Key to Building a 21st Century Church”.
He said the celebration was a unique avenue of bringing people of diverse cultural backgrounds together to join in praising God.
He called on Christians to appreciate their tradition and create space for the accommodation of positive African traditions.
Rev. Awuku-Gyampoh was critical of attempts to adulterate certain cultural practices under the cover of modernity and called for the use of Ghanaian Languages as instructional languages in schools.
Ms. Mavis Ama-Frimpong, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, encouraged the Trinity Church to continue with the celebration and called on all churches to adopt it to provide an avenue for the youth to learn about the culture of the country.
She said this would also help to boost the cloth manufacturing and designing industries and warned those who connived with foreigners to replicate Ghanaian designs to desist from the act.
