Churches urged to get involved in politics

Kade, July 23, GNA- Mr. Gabriel Dei, the Kade District Electoral Officer, on Monday asked Churches not to be apathetic but to get involved in politics, since it effected the development of all Ghanaians.

He said it would be dangerous for Churches to stay aloof whilst some politicians tried to divide the nation in their quest for power. Mr. Dei made the call at a talk organized by the Salvation Army Church, under the theme “building the Kingdom together”, for its members, as part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of the religious organisation, at Kade in the Eastern Region. He said political parties would come and go but Ghana would continue to exist and urged politicians to put the country’s interest above their personal considerations.

Mr. Seth Ntim, personnel at Kwaebibirem District Office of the National commission for Civil Education (NCCE), advised politicians not to regard their opponents as enemies, instead they should work together as partners in development.

He said posterity would not forgive them if they plunge the country into chaos as was happening in some countries, through their utterances and actions.

Mr Ntim said “the only way to move Ghana forward as a nation is for everyone to understand that we have a common destiny.” He advised Ghanaians who attained 18 years and above to register if the voters’ register was re-opened to enable them to exercise their franchise in the 2008 Election.
