Churches urged to embark on aggressive programmes on abortion

Kumasi, July 19, GNA – Churches have been advised to embark on aggressive campaign programmes to enlighten teenage girls more about the implications of abortion just as they do for HIV/AIDS. Bishop J.N.K. Boateng, Founder of the Gospel Revival Church of Christ who gave the advice said this was important because abortion, just like HIV, was now swiftly gaining grounds and fast spreading among teenage girls in the country.

Bishop Boateng was preaching the sermon at a thanksgiving service and a crusade held by the Church at Sofoline in Kumasi on Tuesday.

He acknowledged that even though the Government and various agencies had already instituted campaigns to reduce abortion, their messages have not been able to change the situation. Bishop Boateng noted that since the church had a large membership and greater influence on its congregation, it would be in a better position to convince teenagers to stay away from pre-marital sex and abortions.

He advised teenage girls who perform abortions to stop using the excuse that the pregnancy was either by accident or unplanned as it was not good enough reason to cause abortion.

He told those who engage in abortion and their collaborators that they are all guilty of an offence before God and will certainly have to account for such deeds on the judgement day.

Bishop Boateng made it clear that “sex was not created by God for fun or entertainment but for a purpose, including reproduction and this must be respected by all and sundry.”

Bishop Boateng was of the view that it would be better for those teenage girls who get pregnant to be made to deliver their babies rather that condoning and conniving with them to abort the foetus.
