Obuasi, April 26, GNA – Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, the acting Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, has appealed to religious groups to work towards eliminating religious conflicts to enhance the peace and stability in the country.
Mr Boampong, who made the call in a speech read for him, said “we should endeavour to eliminate religious conflicts and clashes and foster unity in diversity for peaceful co-existence”.
He was addressing the 18th Annual Kumasi Presbytery Representative Council Conference of the Global Evangelical Church at Obuasi.
The three-day conference was under the theme “Let us arise; there is more land to take”.
Mr Boampong said it was essential for churches and other religious groups to bury their differences and get united for the development of the country.
He commended the Global Evangelical Church for embarking on projects to complement government’s efforts.
Rev Samuel Oyete Attu, the Chairman of the Kumasi Presbytery of the church, said the church had noted with great concern the decaying moral values of the society.
“The rising spate of indiscipline, communal violence and disregard for morality and decency especially among the youth is of great concern to the church,” he said.
The Rev Attu said the church did not accept the suggestion from sections of the society to legalise prostitution.
”Prostitution carries not only the degradation of human dignity but also has the potential of eroding all efforts at eradicating sexually transmitted infections.”
Rev Attu commended the government for its efforts towards the eradication of poverty through job creation and the promotion of private sector development and expressed the hope these efforts would yield positive results for the people of Ghana.
