Churches asked to team up with MMDAs to fight social vices

Winneba, May 13, GNA – The Presiding Member of the Effutu Municipal Assembly, the Very Rev. Eldad Bonney, has appealed to churches to team up with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to fight anti-social vices that are on the ascendancy.

He expressed regret that the society was faced with drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and armed robbery and said 93we need to fashion out new tools and messages for evangelism to save and to create the society we all cherish to live in”.

The Presiding Member said this at the launch of the 50th Anniversary Synod of the Winneba Dioceses of the Methodist Church on Thursday.

Opening the Synod, the Bishop of the Winneba Diocese of Methodist Church, Ghana, the Right Reverend Dr Ekow Ghunney said the development of the country was a collective responsibility of the people including churches.

He said effective and efficient teamwork went beyond individual accomplishments and for the church to accomplish its mission, it needed to recognize their individual and collective strengths.

Mr Kuntu Blankson, the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman East, appealed to the church to continue to pray for sustainability of the peace the nation is enjoying.

The church awarded eight retired teachers who taught in Methodist schools in the Diocese and schools who gained one hundred percent in last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

They include Saint Paul in Winneba, Gomoa Abamfo, Asalfa and Apam Methodist JSS while Children who obtained single digit grades were also given gifts
