Churches asked to institute measures to check indiscipline

Akwatia (E/R), Aug. 30, GNA – Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, Kwaebibrim District Chief Executive, on Monday asked churches to institute measures to check indiscipline, drug addiction and sexual promiscuity and the spread of HIV/AIDS in the society.

Addressing the opening session of the Third Koforidua Diocesan Catechists Congress at Akwatia, he said: ” the future of the nation is in danger if moral courage, spiritual uprightness and love for our neighbours are replaced by unbridled pursuit of material wealth and selfishness.”

The Congress held every five years is being attended by 400 Catechists under theme “The Church as family of God in relation to Small Christian Communities in the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua.” Mr Yiadom-Boakye said the church had the responsibility to complement efforts of the state towards socio-economic development therefore, religious leaders should co-operate in all endeavour to promote the quality of life.

He appealed to churches in the district to mobilize their members towards implementation of the assembly’s programmes, especially in the payment of taxes and education of the youth.

Reverend Monsignor Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, Diocesan Administrator, asked them to embark on vigorous training of leaders in their parishes to ensure the Small Christian Community (SSC) concept become functional to promote continuous spiritual growth and social peace. 30 Aug.05
