Churcher, Buckman to contest Oguaa Seat at NPP primaries

Cape Coast, June 21, GNA – Ms Christine Churcher, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast, and Mr Godwin Buckman, a Tutor at the Ghana National College, Cape Coast, are to contest the primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be held on June 30.

Mr Andrew Simpson Constituency Vice-Chairman announced this at an emergency meeting attended by Chairmen of the 108 polling stations in the Constituency at Cape Coast on Friday.

Mr Simpson expressed regret that preparations for the primaries by the two contestants had triggered violence and division among the rank and file of the members and appealed to the Chairmen to be neutral and to vote for the candidate of their choice.

Later at a meeting with the Constituency Executives of the Party about 60 of the Polling Station Chairmen threatened to boycott the primaries if the Party failed to provide adequate security on that day.

Mr William Bessa-Simons, a Spokesman for the Polling Station Chairmen, told the Ghana news Agency that it had become necessary to demand the protection to ensure peaceful primaries and appealed to the Chairmen to comport themselves during the primaries to ensure peace.
