Kumasi, July 15, GNA – The Most Reverend Dr Robert Aboagye-Mensah, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 1.6-billion-cedi three-storey dormitory block for the Mmofraturo Girls Senior Secondary School (SSS) in Kumasi.
The project is being financed by the Kumasi Diocese of the Church and would be completed by July next year.
The ground floor would, however, be ready for occupation by the students in September this year.
The Most Reverend Dr Aboagye-Mensdah who is on pastoral visit to the diocese advised parents to co-operate with teachers to enforce discipline in schools.
He drew attention to the need to distinguish between “bullying and discipline” and said in educational institutions where there is discipline students’ output by way of academic performance tends to be always high.
The Presiding Bishop repeated the church’s total commitment to education especially that of the girl-child and presented 20 computers purchased by the Church to the school.
The Right Reverend Nuh Ben Abubekr, the Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, said it was the vision of the Church to help the school to become one of the leading girls secondary schools in the country. “We as a church, see it as a duty to make this happen”.
He spoke of arrangements made to change the name of the school to Kumasi Wesley Girls High School and was hopeful that the new name would be adopted in the coming academic year.
The Right Rev. Abubekr praised the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for its immense assistance to the school and praised the tutors for the good work they are doing.
