Church to build mobile clinic for deprived community

Rescue the Perishing Mission is to construct a mobile clinic for the Hegakope community, near Amasaman in the Ga West Municipality, to provide health care to the people.

Pastor Steven Attah Poku, the General Overseer of the Church, said the initial estimate for the project is GH50,000.

Pastor Poku announced this during a health screening exercise organized as part of the church’s youth week celebration in Accra. The event, which was organised in collaboration with Rural Health Aid Foundation, and volunteers, was to screen the community of diseases like malaria, hepatitis B, hypertension and diabetes.

He said as part of the project, the church would also purchase four ambulances for the clinic, in collaboration with partner institutions. He said the church decided to embark on the project to assist the community to access quality health care delivery.

He said the church would also provide quarters to accommodate the health practitioners, who would work at the clinic. He called on faith-based organizations not only win souls but also to provide some basic services to the communities in which they operate.

Pastor Poku said the church would replicate the project in other communities. Dr David Sunu, medical officer in-charge of the screening, said the focus of the exercise was mainly on children and women, who are the most vulnerable in society.

He called on policymakers to formulate policies that would ensure that all fresh students entering Senior High School are screened to prevent them from acquiring Hepatitis B. He said those found negative should be given the Hepatitis B vaccine while the positive ones are referred for treatment.

Miss Ferloby Agyemang, Vice Country Representative for Rural Health Aid Foundation, said they would organize outreach programmes for rural communities.
