Church to award scholarship to brilliant student

Kumasi, June 19, GNA- The Asawasi Presbyterian Church in the Kumasi has instituted a scholarship scheme under which it would sponsor the education of a brilliant child every year to a Senior Secondary School (SSS).

The Reverend Kwasi Kumi who announced this on Thursday, said the church would fund the scholarship with support from its members living abroad.

He was speaking at the 24th Anniversary of the Bible Study and Prayer Group of the Church at Asawasi in Kumasi. Rev Kumi asked parents not to use the present economic situation as an excuse to deny their children education.

He also asked parents not to use the same excuse to engage their children in petty trading and other economic chores at the expense of their education.

He charged the Bible Study and Prayer Group to lead lives worthy of emulation so as to enhance the spread of the gospel, adding that they should also step up their outreach programmes to the poor and the needy. Madam Florence Owusu-Ansah, President of the Group, expressed satisfaction about the direction of the group and said it was on course with its missionary work.
