Church should encourage its members into politics

Nkawie (Ash), Aug 19, GNA – Mr Isaiah Opoku Boateng, Sekyere East District Chief Executive, has called on churches to encourage their members to get actively involved in politics.

He noted that the church could not simply become indifferent to the governance of the country since political decisions affected them and their followers.

Mr Opoku-Boateng was speaking at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Emmanuel Methodist Church at Kumawu.

The occasion was also used to dedicate a 350 million-cedi chapel built by the church from its own resources.

The District Chief Executive asked Christians to preach and pray unceasingly for the peace of the country because they could not go about their religious activities when there was turmoil in the society.

He praised the Methodist Church for its immense contribution towards the development of the country as evidenced from the school buildings, water and health facilities it had provided in many places. Barima Asumadu Sakyi II, Omanhene of Kumawu Traditional Area, spoke of the need for religious tolerance, saying, people of different faiths and sects should live in total peace and harmony with one another.

The Very Reverend Dr D.B. Ghartey-Tagoe, Superintendent Minister of the Bodomase Circuit of the church, asked Christians to lead lives that bring dignity and honour to their religious faith.
