Tamale, May 01, GNA – The Tamale Area Women’s Movement of the Church of Pentecost on May Day presented items and one million cedis cash donation to the inmates of the Nyohini Children’s home in Tamale to help in their up-keep.

The items included a bag of rice, two cartons of ideal milk, three rolls of toilet rolls, cooking oil, key soap, 12 boxes of sugar cubes, Milo, some fruit drinks, bread and a quantity of used clothing worth about two million cedis.

The presentation is part of the churches social activities to reach out to the needy in society as a way of emulating Christ’s love and cultivating the habit of gift giving so that others would appreciate the Christian doctrine.

Ms Rebecca Naadei Djani, Area Women’s leader of the church who made the presentation said it was necessary for Christians to emulate the love of God by sharing with the less privileged. She said many people would be celebrating the May Day with merry-making but those at the Nyohini orphanage and in other places would not have the opportunity hence the need for the church to support them.

Mrs. Doris Osei Bonsu, Women’s Wing of the church indicated that the church would continue to support the inmates on annual basis to improve their welfare.

Madam Augustina Quarnoo, supervisor of the orphanage reiterated the call on NGOs and individuals to support the home to fence a wall to protect it from tugs and stray animals. She said the home was facing an acute water shortage and appealed to donors to consider supplying water through the water tanker services to the orphanage to solve partly the water problem there.
