Ashaiman, July 30, GNA — The Church of Christ, has launched a campaign to educate children on the need to observe personal and environmental hygiene.
The campaign, which was launched at Ashaiman, is laying emphasis on washing of hands with soap.
Over 2,000 children drawn from four schools: Presbyterian Basic, Saint John Academy, Lizzie Education Centre and the Church of Christ Complex, benefited from the programme that formed part of activities marking the 15th anniversary of the Rural Water Development Project (RWDP) of the church.
Mr Nathaniel N.S. Adams, Project Director of the RWDP, explained that children are targeted because they fall within the vulnerable group that are not matured enough to observe simple hygiene.
He called on adults to encourage their children to adhere to basic hygienic practices to promote their health.
Mr Adams said though children are taught to wash hands before and after eating, emphasis has not been placed on the use of soap. Activities lined up to mark the anniversary include HIV/AIDS awareness walk, a lecture on sanitation durbar and thanksgiving church service.
