Church ends prayer and fasting for nation

Kumasi, Feb 10, GNA – The Gospel Revival Church of Christ at Sofoline in Kumasi on Monday ended a five-day prayer and fasting for the nation. The prayer and fasting were to seek the divine guidance and absolute peace for this year’s general elections.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Bishop J.K. Boateng, the founder of the Church, admonished pastors to be role models by leading decent lives and practising good habits.

He said as men of God, pastors should not just preach the word but must live by what they preach.

Bishop Boateng said it was only when, pastors, by their own preaching and teachings lead morally upright lives that they could persuade their congregation to change their lifestyles.

He reiterated the need for the clergy to stop preaching materialism in the church and focus on the spiritual development of man and other attributes that could help transform society positively. Bishop Boateng regretted that due to selfish interests, some churches had departed from the real mission of the church, which is to seek salvation for man and had taken to preaching what they could do to bring material gains to their congregation.

He entreated Christians to strive to understand the Bible and not depend solely on pastors to explain the Bible to them since some pastors capitalise on the ignorance of their congregation to mislead them.
