Church elevates Parish

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A) April 19, GNA – The Dormaa Parish of the Anglican Church under the Sunyani Diocese has been elevated to the position of Archdeaconry.

The ceremony, held at Dormaa-Ahenkro at the weekend coincided with the induction of Venerable Emmanuel Mensah, Minister in-charge of Saint James Anglican Church at Dormaa-Ahenkro, as the new Archdeacon. The Right Reverend Thomas Ampah Brient, Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, who performed the ceremony, in a sermon said additional dioceses of the Church would be created in the region to ensure its growth and development.

He said the newly Archdeaconry has jurisdiction over Kenyasi, Bechem, Duayaw-Nkwanta, Berekum, Mim, Wamfie and Kukuom. The Bishop urged the new Archdeacon to work harder to help win more souls for Christ.

Mr. Emmanuel Duku, Dormaa District Chief Executive, noting the partnership of the Church and the state in development asked churches to educate their followers to respond positively to government policies and programmes.

The new Archdeacon, Venerable Mensah in his acceptance speech acknowledged his new position as an honour and a challenging one and pledged to serve the Church well.

He reminded Christians to pray unceasingly to God to ensure peace during the December general election.

Present at the function were Mr. Atta Amponsah, Chairman of the Dormaa West Constituency of the New Patriotic Party, priests and followers of other churches as well as the family of the new Archdeacon.
