Church donates to Nsawam Orthopaedic Centre

Nsawam (E/R), Sept. 4, GNA – The Christ the King Knights and Ladies of St John International at the weekend donated assorted items to the Nsawam Orthopaedic Training Centre at Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region.

The items, worth GH¢2,500 included bags of rice, sugar, detergents, biscuits and cooking oil.

Reverend Father David Amissah, Spiritual Director of Knights and Ladies of St John International at the Christ the King Catholic Church said the donation was part of activities to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Church.

Rev Amissah said the donation was also part of the Church’s charity work and in solidarity to the Centre for its 50th Anniversary hence the need to support them in managing the centre effectively.

He noted that the Church would visit the Nsawam Prison and other needy institutions as part of their social responsibility in reaching out to the less privileged in society.

Rev Amissah said the Church was also thankful to God for the blessings bestowed on them for the 60 years of existence and appeal to all to help to improve the quality life of people who were in challenging moment.

He assured the Centre of the Church’s prayers and future support and asked all to show love and compassion for the handicapped.

Rev. Sister Elizabeth Newman, Co-Director of the Centre, who receive the items thanked the donors for their gesture and called on other corporate bodies and individuals to support the Centre.

Rev Sister Newman used the opportunity to thank all who in diverse ways had supported the Centre over the years.

The Orthopaedic Centre was established in 1961 to manufacture orthopaedic shoes, shoes prostheses, leg braces and artificial limbs.

Currently the Centre serves patients from all over Ghana. They treat foot and limbs deformity, amputations, and spinal problems.
