Accra, Dec. 25, GNA – The Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church on Christmas Day, reminded Christians that the celebrations should focus on Christ and his redemptive work, instead of drinking alcohol and over eating. He said: “Christmas is not basically meant for drinking alcohol and over eating and picnics as some do. It is a day to reflect upon Christ and upon the welfare needs of people.”
Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso, in a sermon he delivered at the Victory Presbyterian Church at Adenta, Frafraha, said it was easy to lose sight of the true meaning of Christ in today’s world but urged Christians to bear in mind the message of God’s love and reconciliation through Christ as we celebrate Christmas.
Speaking on the theme: “Today The Saviour is Born, What is its Significance,” he said “I urge all Christians to see this Christmas and New Year as an opportunity to begin a new page in our lives.” Rev. Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso also called on Christians to rise up and build the walls of fellowship, commonality and fellow-feeling in our country.
“Let us as a nation create a better welfare system that will take good care of the weak and vulnerable in society and particularly of the children and senior citizens who are incapable of doing anything for themselves.” He urged Ghanaians to be thankful to God for the peaceful year he granted the nation even in difficult economic time.
The Moderator on behalf of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church used the occasion to wish all Presbyterians and Ghanaians a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
