Christmas Bazaar to be organised at Amanfro Market

Ngleshie Amanfro (GAR), Oct 22, GNA – Mr Titus Tokoli, Chairman of the Galilea Unit Committee in the Ngleshie Amanfro Electoral Area of the Ga West District, has called on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to encourage traders and hawkers it is ejecting from the central business area of the Capital City as part of its decongestion exercise to go to the Ngleshie Amanfro market to transact their business.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Galilea on Friday, he said there were many empty sheds and stores at the market to accommodate them.

He said that the Ngleshie Amanfro market, which is located on the main Accra – Kasoa truck road was only about 15 miles away from Accra, adding that they could do “good business” there just as in Accra. Mr Tokoli pointed out that could be way out for the AMA, which was having a tough time re-settling the traders and hawkers who were demanding a place to do their business after being ejected from the streets.

He said this would also help in making the market active and revive economic and commercial activities to alleviate poverty and generate revenue for the Ga West District Assembly, which is one of the new ones created in the country.

Mr Okopti Annang, Secretary of the Market Committee, said as part of “putting more life into the new market” a Christmas Bazaar is to be organised during this year’s yuletide season.

He said that the official inauguration of the Bazaar would be held on the 21st of November this year, which would be attended by the Chiefs and elders, the Assembly man, opinion leaders, the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for the area would attend. The Market Committee Secretary said manufacturing companies in the area, Lever Brothers, Azar Paint, poultry farmers and other business concerns had been invited to part in the Bazaar and urged farmers, fishermen and other producers and artisans within the district and beyond should attend to display their produce and craft to make the event successful.

Mr Okpoti Annang said among the items that would be displayed at the Bazaar are cassava, cassava dough, maize, gari, vegetables, plaintain, yams, chicken and livestock, which are produced in abundance in the area.
