Christians have been urged to help other people to overcome intolerance, by promoting peace and harmony in the society.
The Reverend Father John Kenneth Coffie, Parish Priest of the Manso-Nkwanta Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, said they should encourage all to show mutual respect, understanding and goodwill.
He was celebrating the mass at the opening of a three-day retreat held by the Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus Society of the Obuasi Diocesan Catholic Church at Manso-Nkwanta in the Amansie West District.
The theme for the programme was “Remain in my love”.
The Rev Fr Coffie said the expectation was that the people would unite in their efforts to “uphold our common humanity”.
He urged them to suppress the devilish desires of envy, hatred, greed and selfishness.
He also reminded the gathering of the need to show love and care for the needy, the poor and the socially disadvantaged, telling them that, as Christians they have a responsibility to such people to make them happy.
The Rev Fr Emmanuel Sarpong, the Diocesan Youth Chaplain, advised the people to lead pious lives and continue to pray to God for his gift of peace and progress for the nation.
