Christians urged not to shun prostitutes

Mr John Yaw Amakye, an Elder of the Church of Pentecost in Tema, says people considered as social deviants such as prostitutes, should be embraced by Christians and not be shunned.

“We are all created in God’s image. Misfortunes and other factors may cause us to fall sometimes. Let us associate with them and invite them in. Then we could encourage them to change, “he said.

Elder Amakye said this when he launched the “Rescue the Perishing and care for the Dying Generation Foundation.”

Elder Amakye, Chief Executive and Founder of the Foundation, said it is unfortunate that present day Christians, appeared to have lost track of the fact that the Lord Jesus Christ, never shunned people who were considered as sinners.

He said the Foundation mainly focused on helping prostitutes, adding: “Some of them are facing very difficult circumstances, and could become better people if they could find a way out of their circumstances.”

Elder Amakye narrated the case of one prostitute, who had been abandoned by her husband and yet, had to maintain the family lifestyle, in order not to let her five children down.

He said unfortunately, she was a house-wife and had no job.

Elder Amakye said the poor, homeless, prisoners and all other deprived people are also others, who Christians had to show concern and care towards.

He said this reflect the true spirit of Christianity, adding that the foundation is in the process of acquiring some land, which would make it possible for the changed prostitutes, as well as other deviants, to be re-housed and reformed.
