The Reverend Dr Kwamena Opuni-Frimpong, General Secretary of Christian Council of Ghana, has urged Christians to support one another and not be self-centered. He said Christians must not be receivers and possessors only but also serve and give to one another to help bring positive change to the society.
“The country needs change but it should not be done in violence,” he added. Rev Opuni-Frimpong made the remarks in Accra on Sunday during the 30th anniversary thanksgiving ceremony of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana-Nantoma Memorial Congregation, Kanda. Speaking on the theme: “Chosen to Bear Fruit,” he said Christians are called in two dimensions; a calling into possession and a calling into performance.
He said many churches today focus more on the possession call and pay less attention to the performance call, which allows Christians to support one another. “God calls us to come and receive good things and also to bear fruit, evangelise and sacrifice for others,” he added.
He urged Christians to be conscious of the need to always combine human effort with divine intervention, for the advancement of the kingdom of God. He said the spiritual strength of the church should not be compromised in order to keep its values.
Rev E. Osafo-Boateng, Minister in Charge, said the church was established on March 4, 1984, with 20 members who involved themselves in outreach programmes to increase their number. He said the church over the years has helped to impact the community in which it is located, explaining that the church gives support to the Kanda Cluster of schools, which is close to the church premises.
With evangelism as one of its key mission, the church has setup service centres at Asylum Down, Osu, Airport South and some others in the Eastern and Upper East Region, he said. He explained that the setup of service centres was in fulfillment of the aim of bearing fruit to win more souls to Christ.
He said the church as part of its activities for the anniversary, has donated a tank to the Senior Correctional Centre. Rev Osafo-Boateng said the church would put up a three- storey building, which would comprise a conference centre, an apartment for children service and offices for the elders.
