Christians in Oguaa commemorate Palm Sunday

Churches in the Cape Coast Metropolis on Sunday held special services to commemorate the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, one key event of the Easter Celebrations.

The “Palm Sunday” Service was attended by many Christians, who carried and waved palm branches amidst shouts of the singing of songs of “Hosanna! Hosanna!” during the service while others took the celebration to the streets.

Palms Sunday, is the last Sunday of Lent , the 40 day Christian fast and also the beginning of Holy Week, during which Jesus Christ was betrayed, tortured, hanged on the Cross to die after which he was believed to have risen from the dead on Easter Sunday.

In a sermon at the Christ Church Anglican Cathedral, Very Reverend Emmanuel Entsi- Williams, the Dean of the Cathedral, urged Ghanaians to eschew pride, to pardon each other’s wrong doing, and learn to speak and accept the truth at all times.

These, he said, would help resolve the current challenges the country was facing and clear the path for its development.

At the Ebenezer Methodist Church, Siwdo, the celebration coincided with the launch of the Church’s annual Harvest.

Preaching on the theme “I will not sacrifice to the lord… that cost me nothing” Mr. James Odoom, a Lay Preacher, urged Christians to give wholeheartedly towards the work of God just as he gave his begotten Son to die for mankind.

Prayers were said for the youth, nation, the church and Nigeria, for peace to prevail in Nigeria as they elected a new president.
