Christians Exhorted to Denounce Wealth Aggrandizement

Hohoe, Sept. 9, GNA – Reverend William Sakoe, Parish Priest of the Hohoe Central E. P. Church, Ghana, on Sunday exhorted Christians to help each other to alleviate the suffering of the poor.

He denounced wealth aggrandizement and inordinate materialism, saying, if these could not be redirected towards ameliorating the suffering of the underprivileged in the society, then they were useless.

“Boasting of Christ’s largesse in affluence, which fails to address the woes of your next door neighbour or community, is at variance with Christ’s teaching of love for one another,” he said. Rev Sakoe gave the exhortation at a confirmation and baptismal service at Hohoe.

He urged Christians to share their wealth with the underprivileged, adding that the greatest demonstration of love by God to mankind was the death of his son Jesus, which should be replicated by loving one another.

“Humankind was not righteous when Christ died for our sins, so do not be judgmental, and seek the welfare of fellow mankind,” he said. “God is anxious to reconcile with us and in peace, why then do we hate to love one another,” he asked.

Rev Sakoe urged those who were confirmed to be committed Christians, anxious to learn and win more souls to Christ. He appealed to them to shun indecent dressing, alcoholism and other vices, which frowns on the tenets of Christendom. Rev Sakoe called on pastors, chiefs and other stakeholders in the community to condemn wrongdoing as a requirement to reshape society from moral decadence.
