Accra, Nov 2, GNA- The Christian Council of Ghana in conjunction with other Christian Organizations would from Monday December 10, 2007 organise a seven-day National Jubilee Crusade at the Independence Square to celebrate Ghana at 50.
The crusade, to be addressed by Reverend Dr Lawrence Tetteh, a renowned, evangelist, preacher and founder of the World Miracle Outreach based in London, would be celebrated as part of Ghana@50.
Right Rev. Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, who launched the Crusade in Accra, said though the number of churches was increasing, the evils in society were also increasing.
He said it was important that Christian leaders led exemplary lives, stopped the emphasis on materialism and focused on issues that would help in the citizens’ maturity.
“The expectation is that at the end of the crusade lives will be saved and changed as to contribute to the improvement of Ghana,” Rt. Rev Dr Frimpong-Manso said.
He appealed to all churches to set aside a day to be declared as the “National Day for Prayer” and where possible Christian leader should pray for the political leaders.
Rev. Dr. Tetteh said a jubilee year was not celebrated only with fan-fares, but rather people were expected to give thanks to God for keeping faith with them.
“We need to thank God for the peace and tranquility that we have enjoyed since independence,” he said.
Quoting from Leviticus 25, Rev. Dr. Tetteh said God promised that if his people abided by the proclamations of the Jubilee year, “He will bless the nation abundantly, the land shall be fruitful, the people will leave in peace and security and there would be abundance of food. “It is therefore important for us not to be swayed by the fanfare and allow such a unique opportunity to pass by.” he said.
Rev Dr Tetteh said instead of Ghanaians taking the glory for themselves, they should rather give thanks to God for what he had done for the nation, recalling among other things, the collective prayers that people offered to God for the restoration of the energy crises. The crusade would be celebrated on the theme; “The Celebration of God’s Favour”.
There would be visits to special institutions such as the schools for the Deaf and Dumb and the Blind, clean-up campaigns and medical screening as part of activities lined up.
