The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) on Sunday held a special send-off service for Reverend Dr Fred Deegbe, immediate past General Secretary of the Council at the Calvary Baptist Church in Accra.
Rev Deegbe who is a Senior Pastor at the Calvary Baptist Church served the CCG as General Secretary from July 2003 until April 2013, handing over to Rev Dr Frempong Opuni of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
Rev Dr Steve Asante, President of Ghana Baptist Convention described Rev Deegbe as a visionary leader who transformed the CCG by introducing and implementing new policies.
“He ensured that the CCG became a research organisation with more focused on gender and human rights, socio-economic justice, good governance, peace and interfaith in addition to the Council’s traditional programme,” he stressed.
Rev Dr Paul Fynn, President of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in a sermon expressed joy over the good relationship that exists among the Christian faith in Ghana.
He noted that there are many people who are altering their retirement records because of the fear that that they would become useless, worthless and aimless after retirement.
He said however that retirement does not make one useless or aimless but rather opens a new page in one’s life.
Relating his sermon to Paul in the Bible, Rev Fynn said Paul became intoxicated with the word of God when he retired and was forward looking without thinking of the past.
He, therefore, advised Rev Deegbe to ignore the past and be forward looking while he continued to love and serve God.
Rev Fred Deegbe said, it was an honour and privilege to serve the Council and promised to publish his memoir for his 10 -year experience at the CCG at God’s appointed time.
He urged the new Secretary General to formulate people centred policies and programmes for the benefit of the masses.
The Calvary Baptist Convention and the CCG gave a citation to Rev Deegbe for his selfless and meritorious service.
