The Christian community in the Wa Municipality on Sunday held a thanksgiving service and prayed for peace, security and stability for the country.
Apostle George Pasera, Chairman of the Local Council of Churches, said God had in the past years blessed Ghana and Ghanaians needed to be thanking him every day for His kindness.
He said all Ghanaians should pray for peace, security and stability and appealed to politicians to respect each other.
The Very Rev. Samuel Hagan appealed to the youth not to allow themselves to be used to engage in violence before, during and after the 2012 elections.
“Abusive words on the airwaves should also cease because Ghana needs peace and security to develop,” he said.
The Most Rev. Paul Bemile, the Catholic Bishop of Wa Diocese, said Ghana was at the crossroads and needed God’s intervention to sail through successfully.
He said Ghanaians should at this hour be praying to God to offer the country peace, security and stability.
“Ghanaians should hold each other as competitors, as brothers and sisters and with a common goal and destiny as well as uphold and defend national unity”.
Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, the Upper West Regional Minister, called on the Christian and Muslim communities as well as traditional rulers and all other stakeholders in the region to be talking to the people to seek peace within themselves.
He said society should say no to politicians who out of greed would want to misuse the people to cause confusion.
He reminded the people about the biometric voters’ registration exercise scheduled to begin on March 24 and called on community leaders to help educate the people to participate in the exercise.**
