The Christian Children Fund of Canada (CCFC), a child centred NGO has urged Ghana Government to support the passage of the United Nations Resolution on the need to address violence against children in September 2015.
Mr Mark Lukowski, CCFC Chief Executive Officer, said the organization in collaboration with the ChildFund Alliance was working diligently in gaining governmental support globally to endorse the resolution.
He said the reduction of life expectation of children was a key element of eliminating poverty and needed to be addressed.
Mr Lukowski, who made these remarks in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra, said the Millennium Development Goal post-2015 agenda, which would be effective from 2015 to 2030, seeks to address violence against children and must be supported by governments and all and sundry.
He said CCFC’s partner ChildFund Alliance has launched the ‘Free From Violence Campaign’, which is asking citizens of the world to endorse the support for the initiative that reduction and exploitation of children is imperative.
He said ChildFund Alliance’s global campaign ‘Free From Violence’ (www.freefromviolence.org) had been set up to advocate to Governments for the inclusion of the prevention of violence and exploitation of children as one of the development priorities in the post-2015 agenda and to raise awareness at all levels of these issues.
Mr Lukowski said he was in the country to witness the good works of CCFC Ghana.
He said his wish was that every child in the world could grow to achieve its full potential.
Gifty Akosua Baka, CCFC Ghana Country Director, said the organization was operating in the Northern Region in five core sectors namely education, health and nutrition, water and sanitation, sustainable development, strengthening institutions and communities, gender, environment and child protection.
She said over the past 18 years CCFC had provided over 100 school buildings with offices and stores for depraved communities in the Northern Region.
On the outlook for 2015, the Country Director said CCFC would be providing libraries and solar panels for schools to enhance learning.
Explaining that with Information and Communication Technology as a core subject at the basic school level, it could only be thought well in schools with electricity to power the computers, hence the need to provide schools with solar powered electricity.
The Country Director observed that CCFC was supporting over 20,000 school children with scholarship.
She commended the people of Canada for their support for the Ghanaian children.
CCFC is a child centred non-governmental organization which has been working to create a future of hope for children, families, and communities by helping them develop the skills and resources to overcome poverty and pursue justice.
The vision of CCFC is to create a world where every child has a voice and the ability to achieve their full potential.
