Christendom asked to call unethical pastors to order

Tema, March 19, GNA – Christendom has been asked to call to order unethical pastors, who abused vulnerable people with the excuse of exorcising them from witchcraft.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Augustine Gyening, Tema Regional Police Commander, made the call at this year’s Annual WASSA of the Tema Regional Police Command, in Tema on Friday. He recalled the alleged burning of a 72-year-old woman in Tema by a pastor and five others late last year, and said the Police were investigating a similar incident which had occurred this month. ACP Gyening urged the public to assist the Police in fighting crime being perpetrated against the vulnerable.

He appealed to philanthropists and organisations to assist the Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Tema Regional Police with a vehicle to facilitate its work. ACP Gyening said the DOVVSU would intensify its educational campaign at schools, churches, markets due to increase in spouse and child abuse in the Tema area.

He said the Tema Regional Police Command has been able to stop criminals from operating on the Motorway through day and night patrols.

ACP Gyening commended the public for volunteering information to the Police to facilitate their operations.

He cautioned drivers against negligence and disregard for traffic rules that results in deaths and said the Police would continue to deal with road and traffic offenders in accordance with the law. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Prosper Agblor, Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Police, represented the Inspector General of Police at the event. DCOP Agblor entreated the Police to work as a team to enable the Ghana Police Service achieve the estimated 20 percent reduction in crime as stated in its five-year strategic plan.

Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Mantse, commended the Tema Police Command for effectively fighting crime in the area. Chief Inspector Kwesi Osei and Constable Raymond Ankamah were awarded for their outstanding service to the Police Command. 1
